When making cheese the whey disposal has become a great problem. The whey,
however, contains valuable constituents such as proteins, lactose and salts
which can be used in various food products.
Hellenic Protein SA, Greece has
three factories, 1. Epirus Protein SA in Ionnia, built in1998, 2. Central
Protein SA in Karditsa in operation 1999, and 3. Macedonia Protein SA. put into
operation in 2001. The product range is whey powders, (with min.10% and 17 %
protein), whey protein powders (with min. 33% and 63% protein).
The
projects was handled by the “Whey Consulting Team” of the GEA Group.
