A key to producing high quality dairy products is being able to
standardise the raw ingredient, whether as a final product or for a down-stream
process. The BASK has been developed specially to meet the requirements of the
dairy industry. It produces standardised milk with accurate and reliable
results in a fully cleanable system with reduced running costs.
Challenge
A number of systems are currently used in the dairy industry for milk
standardisation. Batch systems can achieve good results but suffer with high
capital costs and inherent production delays. On-line systems that replicate
the laboratory analysers have large lag times due to the slow sample rate, also
they require maintenance of moving parts and replacement of consumables as well
as constant recalibration. Analysis based on light absorption or density is
affected by changing process conditions such as temperature, pressure or flow.
Solution
The BASK in-line standardising system uses a solid-state sensor mounted
directly in the process pipe, eliminating maintenance and consumable costs. The
controller automatically corrects for variations in temperature and flow and
responds immediately to changes in the milk fat concentration. The sensor can
even compensate for fouling and can be left in the process line during
cleaning. Initial calibration takes approximately two hours.
Applications
• Each BASK is tailor-made to meet the needs of the process with a typical
accuracy of ±0.02% fat.
• Cheese-milk standardisation.
•
Standardisation for Powder production.
• Retail milk
The system can
be configured to control many different mixtures of milk products, including:
• Whole milk, Skim milk and Skim milk concentrate.
• Skim milk, Skim
milk concentrate and Cream.
• Skim milk, Permeate and Cream.
